What is an NBN NTD relocation? An NTD relocation moves your Network Termination Device — the wall-mounted box connecting your property to the NBN FTTP network — to a more convenient location.
TechTV Cabling relocates NTDs, installs compliant cable pathways, and runs ethernet/CAT6 cabling so your router sits where you need it. Perth Metro, ACMA-registered.
Is your NBN equipment in the wrong spot?
Your Network Termination Device (NTD) is the wall-mounted box that connects your property to the NBN FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) network. It's essential for delivering internet to your home or office.
A standard NBN installation often places this box in the easiest location for the installer — not necessarily the best location for you. That's where TechTV comes in.
If your standard NBN installation left the NTD in the garage, hallway, or another inconvenient location, TechTV Cabling can help.
What We Can Do
Relocate an existing NBN Network Termination Device (NTD)
Install compliant NBN cable pathways using P20 conduit and draw string
Run CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet data cabling from your NTD to your Wi-Fi router
Relocate your router to a central or preferred location — even if the NTD stays in the garage or utility area
Work with your existing cabling.
Common NBN Problems We Help With
NTD installed in the garage, laundry, hallway, or another inconvenient spot
Wi-Fi router stuck next to the NTD with poor coverage
Missing or non-compliant cable pathway
Exposed or messy cabling
NBN installer couldn't complete the job due to lack of conduit or access
Assistance with nbn connection
How Much Does It Cost?
How much does NBN NTD relocation cost? NBN NTD relocations, cabling solutions, and NBN cable pathway installations typically cost between $450 and $1500+, depending on property layout and access.
Multi-storey homes and properties with difficult roof access are at the higher end. We use two technicians on these jobs for safety and to get them done properly.
Tip: We recommend working with your NBN installer first to choose an acceptable free installation location. After that, TechTV can install CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet cabling to place your Wi-Fi router exactly where you want it.
How Our Process Works
1. Site Assessment We evaluate your existing NTD location and your preferred new spot. We check suitable power supply, cabling routes, wall access, and the best way to achieve a clean result.
2. Installation & Testing Our ACMA-registered cablers test and install the fibre optic cabling, relocate or reconnect your service, and check any required configuration on your router.
3. Speed Test & Handover We thoroughly test all installations and show you how to run an internet speed test, so you know everything is working properly.
Internal NTD Relocation vs. External NBN Relocation
If your NTD is inside your home or business, a registered cabler can relocate it under nbn's Authority to Alter guidelines. If you need external NBN infrastructure that's fixed to the side of your home or business moved, TechTV can handle everything.
Our Cabling Standards
TechTV has been around long enough to know the only fibre worth installing has a steel-core armour jacket — this prevents future damage.
We've noticed other companies in Perth offering this same service using optic fibre that breaks very easily if disturbed after installation — by someone stepping on it, rodents, and so on. It's a false economy: the cable fails, and you're paying again to have it replaced.
In 2026, we've noticed NBN installing the indoor Network Termination Device without fitting an external cable junction box. We can still help — sometimes we'll just need to install a junction box.
We regularly come across clients who've been talked into installing copper Ethernet cable instead of relocating the Network Termination Device. This is usually because, without an external NBN box, you need to splice the fibre to get a connection — and copper is the easier job for whoever's quoting it. But it's not always the right answer for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NBN relocations — from whether you can do it yourself to how long it takes and what affects your Wi-Fi. If your question isn't here, get in touch and we'll answer it directly.
No. Relocating the NTD involves altering nbn's network infrastructure, which must be done by an ACMA-registered cabler under nbn's Authority to Alter guidelines. DIY relocation can also void your nbn service guarantees.
Yes. TechTV relocates NTDs to garages, studies, living areas, or wherever suits your layout — subject to power supply, cable routing, and wall access. We assess this during the site visit.
The NTD is the box where the fibre terminates. The router is what broadcasts your Wi-Fi. Sometimes you only need the router moved — we can run CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet from the existing NTD to a better router location, which is often cheaper than moving the NTD itself.
Yes. Depending on technician availability, we can work after hours and on weekends.
No — relocating the NTD doesn't change your internet speed. But it often changes where your Wi-Fi router ends up, which absolutely does affect coverage. In many cases we move the NTD to where your old router used to sit before NBN was installed — which is usually a central spot the house was already wired around. That's often the best of both worlds: the NTD is out of the way, and the Wi-Fi is back where it worked well.
